Maple Tree Description

Acer palmatum 'Beni Otake' is a dwarf linearilobum variety with a columnar upright shape with horizontal branching, often described as an upright bushy tree with a bamboo-like form. Aptly named “Big Red Bamboo” in Japanese. A vigorous grower averaging a foot of growth per year, reaching a maximum height of 10 to 14 feet. This maple variety is perfect for your smaller spaces, and grows equally well in the ground or a container. The foliage is purple-red during the summer with long and elegant bamboo-leaves. These smooth edged leaves are similar to the laceleaf Japanese Maple leaf but without the frilly edges. Retains its purple-red color through the summer better than many other varieties but it will slowly fade to a green/purple during the summer but this only enhances the overall appearance of the bamboo-like leaves before bursting into a crimson red during the fall.
